These programs for children/youth have been designed to be in compliance with the policies of the Diocese of Lexington. The National Catechetical Directory states that the parents are the first and most important catechists of their children. Parents catechize by example and instruction. The faith community of PAX CHRISTI is committed to assisting parents in this most important duty by providing volunteer catechists and curricula. • Volunteer catechists are a vital part of our program. They work together to share their faith and their love of God with the students and their families. Their ministry is a valuable service to the Church. These catechists are guided by the Formation Committee of the parish and parish staff. • Curricula used for our programs are approved by the diocese. The curriculum presents the central truths of the love of God and others, while building a Catholic Christian community. The curriculum is designed to help parents review the lessons that were presented in class. The faith experience is presented through personal and community activities, personal and liturgical prayer, the celebration of the sacraments, and social actions to help our neighbors. By working together to discuss and reinforce these lessons, parents and teachers help build a spiritual community for our children. Admission Policy • PAX CHRISTI FaithWalk Programs are open to all parishioners. • Non-parishioners who wish their children to participate in the Formation Programs offered at PAX CHRISTI must contact the office before registering, and an additional fee may be charged for participation. • Since sacramental preparation is the responsibility of the family’s parish of registration, children/youth attending Catholic Schools must participate in the preparation programs at PAX CHRISTI. Requests for children/youth from other parishes to receive the sacraments at PAX CHRISTI must be approved by the pastor of the parish of registration. • Children attending Catholic Schools must participate in the faith formation programs at PAX CHRISTI in order for verification of membership to be provided to the school. Attendance and Behavior Policy The following policy is in place to help ensure a consistent and safe atmosphere for faith formation: 1) All adults who have children enrolled in the Sunday morning FaithWalk program are encouraged to assist in that classroom at least one session each semester. Adults are also encouraged to attend other adult programs as they are made available. 2) Students registered in the Sunday morning program are expected to attend all scheduled classes and Sunday Mass. Parents will be contacted if their child(ren) miss more than three consecutive classes. 3) Students who present a discipline problem to the catechists will be required to have a parent present in the class until behavior improves.
