Hands Across/Stand Together Lexington 2026 is an effort by the interfaith community of Lexington and surrounding areas to appeal for connection, kindness, and unity. It will take place on Friday, August 28, from Noon to 1pm.
Why It Matters: A peaceful, public human chain across Lexington sends a clear message: our community chooses compassion, dignity, and belonging. Whether 800 or 8,000 people join us, this visible act of unity strengthens our city and encourages others to do the same.
Last year’s inaugural event brought 800 people together across Lexington in a 6‑mile human chain, seen by 15,000 vehicles and widely covered in local media.
Our delegation of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington will gather at 11:30am in front of St. Paul’s (501 West Short Street), then walk over to line up along Main Street.
Attached to this email are the flyers for the event and an outline map of the route.
Standing hand-in-hand and shoulder-to-shoulder, participants will form a human chain stretching across the city. The goal is to lift up the values that make communities thrive: respect, belonging, and human dignity. August 28 is the anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington, during which Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered the speech known as “I Have a Dream.”
Bishop John Stowe has endorsed this event, and encourages the members of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington, and people of all faiths, to participate.
