Happenings at the Pax

Volunteers Make it Happen at Pax Christi!

Wow!  What a difference volunteers make in the efficiency of the office!  Thank you to the wonderful group of volunteers who help keep the office running in a smooth manner. Light clerical assistance and answering the phone is much needed and greatly appreciated!  A list of new projects to be tackled by volunteers is currently in the works.  There are a few days coming up during the next few months with spots available as volunteers take vacations.  Please consider spending a few hours a week (9:00-11:30 or 11:30– 2:00) to help keep the office performing at its best.  If a weekly commitment isn't feasible, consider being added to the sub list.  Contact Kris Coons at kcoons@cdlex.org if you have questions or would like to be added to the volunteer schedule.

Help the FaithWalk children and youth

Please join the children and youth of Faithwalk as they collect paper products.

They are collecting October 14 – November 18

Paper Towels             Tissues          Toilet paper                      Diapers

They will be shared with God’s Pantry, the Nest and Greenhouse 17 here in Lexington.  Won’t you join their outreach and donate some of these paper products over these 4 weeks? They can be placed on the tables in the church behind the altar or brought to the classrooms during FaithWalk each Sunday (9:45-10:45 am).  The children will bring them upstairs before the 11am mass.

Giving Tree 2018

The Giving Tree is one of Pax Christi’s major Christian Service outreach activities.  Through your generosity, our parish brings Christmas cheer to underprivileged children in Monticello & Wayne County.  We have a steering committee but continue to need help with coordination and volunteers for the project.

If you have any questions or wish to be put on the email list, contact Nancy Lacy: nlacy@twc.com

Here is the timeline for this year’s Giving Tree And how parishioners can participate:

Sat. Nov. 10th:  10am need volunteers to help prepare cards and set up the trees.

Nov. 11-30th:   Need volunteers (2 or 3) to help assist at the tables before and after each mass to assist parishioners in the card sign out process and also to help sort gifts after the 11am mass each week.  Parishioners select one or more Giving Tree cards from the Giving Trees in the gathering area.  Purchase the gifts suggested on the card (an outfit & a toy – both gifts suggested to total no more than $50), gift wrap them and tie them together, & attach the prepared labels to the outside of the gifts (please be sure labels are easily seen).

By December 9th : Bring your wrapped & labeled gifts back to the church.  We will have a collection area in the down stairs hall for collecting all the gifts to be checked-in.  (Use labels provided – see the Giving Tree card).  Gifts can be brought back to the church anytime but deadline is 12pm on Dec 9th.

Dec. 9-13th: Donate Little Debbie Snack Cakes (please only the single wrapped Christmas Cakes – we cannot serve the twin wrapped cakes) and juice boxes (please no pouches) to be served at the party for the children.

Dec. 15th: Pax Christi hosts the Christmas Party for Children in Monticello/Wayne County.  Truck is loaded at 8AM and depart approximately 8:30am.  We welcome all parishioners to attend the party with us (we need lots of help the day of the trip/party)

We will also be collecting new and gently used children’s books to be handed out at the party – there will be a collection box near the Giving Tree in the gathering area.

Come to one — Come to all!

Each evening is a stand alone event…but Fr. Jim does connect one evening to the next,

Fr. Jim Sichko is a full-time preacher, evangelist and motivational speaker based in the Diocese of Lexington, KY.  In February 2016, Pope Francis commissioned Fr. Jim as one of his Papal Missionaries of Mercy of which there are only 1,000 in the world and 100 in the United States.

Since becoming a priest, Fr. Jim has made headlines for random acts of generosity and kindness, giving away thousands of dollars to people at the grocery stores, on the streets and especially to those most in need.

Fr. Jim uses real life experiences and ties those experiences into the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.  Known for his presentations entitled, “60 minutes for Jesus,” each talk is geared for all in the family household with no exceptions.

IMPORTANT Online giving News:

The Diocese has entered into a contract with a different online third party provider —VANCO.  There has been an issue with shutting down the Stewardship Technology site..   Please go into that site to cancel future giving..  Please contact Melissa Holland if you need assistance in doing this as we cannot change your designation without a written request from you.   We will be publishing how to go into VANCO to begin giving through  that provider.
