Where is Father Larry?

Father Larry asks for prayers for himself and his brother priests.

On Tuesday evening, November 17th, Father Larry was exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID on Wednesday.  He was hosting his Priest Support Group with masks, safe distancing and individual snacks on Tuesday night.  He learned of the exposer on Thursday morning and contacted me to let me know he would not be able to preside at our 9:30 AM Mass today.   Fr. Dennis Knight graciously accepted the offer to help us out.   According to protocals, Father Larry will be quarantined for 14 day and will receive negative testing before he returns to the parish.  He has not been at the parish since Tuesday morning so there is no incident of exposure at Pax Christi.    Father Dennis will be preciding at most of the Mass while Father Larry is out.    Bishop John Stowe, OFMConv. will preside this Saturday, November 21st at the 5:00 PM Mass.

Click here for the Order Form.   Suggested donation is $15/poinsettia and $20/tree.   Thank you for making the season bright!

Faith Walk News

FaithWalk Update From Melissa Holland…
Realizing that many of our young families may have been affected financially this year by the COVID-19
restrictions we have determined that there will be no fees charged for our Virtual FaithWalk Program or
for our Sacramental Years. However, there is a cost to the parish for the on-line programming being
provided this year, the “Pick-up Parties” being planned and for the in-person Sacramental Programs. Normal
fees for FaithWalk are $50 for one student, $80 for two students, or $100 for three or
more students, plus $100 for each student in sacramental preparation (typically 2nd &
th grade). Anyone wishing to help defray these costs may make a tax deductible
donation to the parish by marking in the memo line on your check “donation to
FaithWalk” and mail to: Pax Christi Catholic Church, 4001 Victoria Way,

Fr. Pat Stewart

Update for Fr. Pat

Father Pat feels that he is improving a little bit more each day! Thanks be to God! He still has a long way to go until he feels more like himself. The nature of pancreatitis is that there are ups and downs for several weeks, or even months, requiring additional procedures and much time for rest. Please continue to hold him in prayer.

Upcoming Masses and Protocols (Covid-19)

Since the news of the uptick in COVID numbers in Kentucky (specifically in Fayette & Jessamine County) this week we have received several questions regarding Masses at Pax Christi.  We do plan to continue with scheduled Mass.  We take this opportunity to remind you of the protocols that have kept our parish a safe place for those who have been able to return to Mass.

Our only concern is always that everyone who attends Mass or other events at Pax Christi is safe.  We consider it a serious obligation to assure the safety of all who come to worship in this space.
Please keep in mind:
1) If you are experiencing any symptoms that might be COVID please refrain from coming to church, seek medical attention, be tested and isolate.
2) If you have been to church and later in the day or the next few days experience symptoms that might be COVID please let us know when you were here and where you were seated.  If you know the people in close proximity to where you were sitting please be let us know.
3) Masks must be worn.  These should be surgical or cloth masks.
4) Upon entering the church please stop at the counter to use hand sanitizer
5) Please do not gather in the welcome area or other areas in the church
6) Please keep six feet distance from those not in your own household
7) Please be seated from the front of church back in order to keep passing others at a minimum
8) Please be seated in appropriate areas for your family [i.e. couples, families, single households)
9) Please follow guidance regarding coming forward for communion and returning to your seat – please keep masks in place until you turn away from the minister
10) The church basement is closed to walk-ins.  If you wish to schedule a meeting with a member of the staff please contact them by email or call the office (859-273-9999) during office hours to arrange to meet them upstairs.

Thank you for being so patient with these protocols as doing so helps us keep the church a safer place for all those who feel they are able to return at this time and helps us prepare for an increase in that number as time goes on.

Please remember that this year Bishop John has issued dispensation of the obligation to attend Mass until further notice.  Please use your discretion as to your vulnerability or the vulnerability of those for whom you have regular contact.

Mass times for Sunday Liturgy
Saturday  5:00 PM;  Sunday  8:30 & 11:30 AM; and Monday 12:00 Noon

Weekday Masses:  Tuesday & Thursday 9:30 AM; Friday 12:00 Noon
Under current protocols, there is no singing at this time.  Pax Christi’s music director will be the only person playing our pianos.    Stringed instruments may be permitted under the direction and positioning of our music director (safe distancing and masks required).  No Brass instruments are allowed at this time.

We are taking every precaution to keep a clean environment.  After every Mass or gathering the chairs, door handles, bathrooms and all counters are sanitized.

Others Protocols for funerals, wedding and other special Masses
Pease restrict the total number you are inviting.
Concerning people who will be traveling from out of state.  When we begin to welcome people who will have to travel we are adding a new safety challenge that is harder to control. We are asking you to consider these protocols.

Can they come to Lexington 2 weeks ahead and reasonably restrict their exposure to family members who will be attending the Mass or other event?
If they can only come just a day or two before the Mass or other event, can they be tested three days before traveling and reasonably restrict their exposure before attending?  That way, if they test negative and show no symptoms, we can be more assured that they and others are safe.
We continue to find it problematic to have guests flying just a day or two before attending Mass or other events here at the parish.

Giving Tree 2020

As with so many things in 2020 our Giving Tree this year will look different from previous years.

Since 1994 Pax Christi has joined with St. Peter Catholic Church in Monticello to provide Christmas presents for children in the Monticello/Wayne County area.   In the past 26 years we have collected new clothes and toys for children who would otherwise have no Christmas gifts.  Names are collected by a volunteer from St. Peter church who coordinates with the schools in Monticello and Wayne County.   In past years we would then have volunteers here at Pax Christi sort presents, travel to Wayne County and have a party for these children.

As with everything this year, we must develop a new way to provide for these children!

During the month of November Pax Christi will again partner with St. Peter Parish by providing an opportunity for you to give financial assistance for St. Peter Parish to purchase gifts that our parishioners would normally purchase.  You are invited to donate to this special Giving Tree Fund throughout the month with all donations to be received in the Parish office by noon on Monday, November 30th as we will be passing these funds on to St. Peter Parish on December 1st.

How to give:   Checks should be made payable to Pax Christi Catholic Church

Check marked “Giving Tree” in the collection basket at the back of church

Cash envelope marked “Giving Tree” in the collection basket at the back of church

Mail check marked “Giving Tree” to 4001 Victoria Way, Lexington, KY  40515

We will not have the option for on-line donations for this program.

Suggested support of one child is $50 (that is $25/clothing; $25/toy), however, no amount is too small or too large.   We appreciate your participation in this project at any level you are able.
