“The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator.  By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children.  Christ the Lord has raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament.”  (CCC 1659)
Planning to marry  Couples who wish to be married in the Catholic Church are expected to complete a Marriage preparation program.   The program has four components and should be initiated at least six months prior to a wedding date.
Meetings with Priest/Deacon:  the couple is expected to begin by meeting with a priest or deacon who will complete a Pre-Nupitial Inventory.  The purpose of this interview is to determine that the couple is free to marry, as understood by the Catholic Church.  Previous marriages may prohibit a couple from having a Catholic wedding.   In addition to this Pre-Nupitial Inventory, couples will complete a FOCCUS inventory.  This is a communication inventory which will serve as a basis for further discussion with the priest/deacon.
God’s Plan for a Joy-filled Marriage:  This program is done on a Saturday.  Through this program, the couple is given the Catholic perspective on marriage, and God’s plan for them as a married couple.  A certificate of completion is the record of participation.  Registration for this program is through the Diocese of Lexington website:
The Married Life Skills Workshop: This program is done on a  Saturday.  Through this program, the couple is exposed to difficulties which may come up in a new married situation, and they are offered methods to resolve these issues.  This program is offered at  PAX CHRISTI on Saturday, and CHRIST THE KING on a Friday evening/Saturday and at MARY QUEEN OF THE HOLY ROSARY, on four consecutive evenings.  A certificate of completion is the record of participation.  Registration for this program is through the parish.
Natural Family Planning Workshop:  This workshop assist couples to understand Natural Family Planning and invites couples to use this methodology in their married life.  The workshop can be completed on-line, or is offered on three evenings twice a month in the Diocese of Lexington.

Couples who may have a previous marriage or other special issues which may affect their freedom to marry are to have that issue resolved prior to planning a wedding date.  For more information, please contact the office at 859-273-999.
