Music Ministry

"God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song.  God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.  By its very nature song has both an individual and a communal dimension. Thus, it is no wonder that singing together in church expresses so well the sacramental presence of God to his people.”                                                               (USCCB Sing To The Lord)

This statement from the USCCB truly embodies the spirit of the music ministry of PAX CHRISTI.  Music by its very nature is a gift from God, and we are blessed to be able to take part in this gift of the Spirit as a full community.  We strive to lift our voices together in praise and thanksgiving as one Body of Christ for the greater glory of God.

Currently at 40 members, this expanding ministry covers our ever growing need to incorporate music of all forms into our worship experience.  From children’s to adult choirs, from classic hymn favorites to contemporary Christian rock, and everything in between, we’re sure we can find a place for you to share in this experience with us.   The choir has many different groups that express the different types of music we sing.

Cross Check:  This acoustic three-piece group (comprised of Brian Williamson, Kristin Gallagher, and Mike Meehan) leads our congregation on the second Sunday of every month.  With a scaled down ensemble and beautiful three part harmonies, this group guides the congregation through a mixture of classic hymns and contemporary Christian songs.

New Vision: This audition group comprised of Darlene Horine, Gerry Zuniga, Michelle Duncan, Peyton Nunley, Hattie Nunley, Michael Bryant, Rainer Dittert, Lino Bermundo, and accompanists Amy Brown and Debbie Ralph, lead our congregation twice a month through a varied collection of old standards and new favorites.  The ample voices and wonderful backing instruments create a rich harmonic texture which beckons us to full participation in our Liturgy.

PAX CHRISTI Choir: Currently made up of 13 singers, this group has a large responsibility in leading our congregation in song for both regular weekend Masses and special events.  This ensemble currently sings three part harmony (SAB), though we are working on building up to a full SATB choral setting.  We need your help!  We meet every Tuesday night from 7:30pm-9:00pm in the choir section (to the left of the ambo if you’re facing the altar), and we have a standing open invitation for anyone who wishes to participate!  No prior experience required!  All parishioners are welcomed.

PAX CHRISTI Angel Choir: The year-round children’s choir program has been a recent development to the PAX CHRISTI Music Ministry.  This group provides music for our Christmas Eve Pageant Mass, Advent Stations, First Communion Mass, and other various youth focused events.  They also participate in the annual Area Choir Concert in February along with other choirs from various schools and churches in the Lexington area.  There is open registration throughout the month of September and in the beginning of January.  All children ages 5-12 are welcome to participate.  Rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoon from 12:15pm-1:15pm.

The Youth Mass Band: On the fifth Sunday of the month, PAX CHRISTI hosts a youth Mass.  The selections mostly come from contemporary Christian music covered by our youth mass band, and we are always in need of extra singers and musicians for this group.
