I want to thank the members of the Exploratory Committee for the work that they have done in responding to the Pastoral Council’s Visioning Initiative. They deliberated under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to determine where we as a parish need to go in order to meet the growing needs of our parish. As Fr. Larry commented on the Sunday that the Committee made its presentation to the parish, using the basement of this building for faith formation and parish offices was ‘always intended to be temporary’. However, because it has been temporary for so long, many of us just think this is the way it was supposed to be.
I also want to thank each of you for your participation in the survey. A strong majority of you who responded to the survey were in support of the questions 1, 2, 3. A majority also feel that we need to address the issue of an athletic building as address in question 4. There was also a vocal minority who believe that we should not do anything else until the current building is paid off, and some other issues in this church building are corrected. The current building loan will be paid off before, as part of our request to initiate a new capital campaign for new building.—if that is the direction we decide to move in.
A few indicated that PAX CHRISTI is not transparent enough about how money is used. Personally, I believe that the parish, through its Finance Council and Pastoral Council have been open and transparent about the finances of the parish; however, if you feel there is some kind of information you are not getting, please contact Melissa (or me) to review the books, and get your questions answered. I do want you to have your doubts resolved.
The Exploratory committee will be meeting in the next few weeks to review the responses to the parish survey, and to determine the next step in the process. Please feel free to seek them out and share your opinion.
And please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit guide us in our deliberations, as it says in Acts, “if it is of God, it will success; if of men, it will die.”
Again, thank you all for your participation. If you have not yet responded to the survey, you can go to the website, paxchristilex.org. Listen to the presentation and answer the questions on the survey monkey. It will be on the website until February 15.
In the peace of Christ, PAX CHRISTI,
