At all four Masses on the weekend of August 21, 22 and 23, we will offer the Sacrament of Anointing for all who wish to be anointed
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can be given for many different circumstances; before a surgery, after a serious diagnosis, or for a chronic condition. When celebrated as a group of people showing their support to one another, the sacrament can be a moving and healing experience of the presence of the Holy Spirit, “the Lord and Giver of Life.”
The Covid virus, the subsequent quarantines, restrictions and requirements have affected us all. I have repeatedly referred to this as a traumatic time. I know that many of us, even if we never contacted the virus, have been affected either physically, emotionally or spiritually. I know I have been.
Therefore, I think it is appropriate to offer the Sacrament of Anointing to all at all the Masses. We will have guest priests present to help the anointing go quickly and smoothly. The prayers of the rite will be celebrated at the end of each Mass before the closing music. Then, as people leave church they can present themselves to one of the priests who are present for the actual anointing.
If you feel that you have suffered in any way during these months, I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to place your needs before the Lord and receive His healing of strength and peace.
